THE FIRST
KITESURF CROSSING
OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

At the end of the year, Belgian adventurer Koen Darras attempts a world's first: a 5.000 km Atlantic crossing by kitesurf as a solo rider

THE MISSION

This expedition is about pushing the boundary of what is possible with wind power. It is a 5.000 km journey across the open ocean, powered only by nature and human endurance.

Koen Darras will attempt the first-ever kitesurf crossing of the Atlantic, connecting continents with a single kite. It is a story of preparation, respect for the ocean, and the relentless pursuit of a dream that has been years in the making.

Follow the journey as we prepare to make history.

Why This Expedition Matters

A World's First

No one has ever crossed the Atlantic Ocean by kitesurf. This expedition pushes the boundaries of wind-powered adventure, proving that with the right preparation, even the impossible becomes achievable.

Human Endurance

It is a test of physical and mental resilience. Day after day on the open water, navigating waves and wind, making critical decisions under pressure. It is about finding calm in the chaos.

Respect for Nature

This journey is not about conquering the ocean, but moving with it. It is a story of patience, deep preparation, and the humility required to cross 5,000 km of blue wilderness.

The Crossing

One Team · One Kite · One Ocean

The expedition launches from Tarifa, Spain, heading south to the Canary Islands, then to Cape Verde, before the final 3,000 km leg to the Caribbean. In total, Koen will cover approximately 5,000 km of open ocean.

This is a wind-powered journey. No engines. No motors. Just a kite, a board, and the Atlantic trade winds. Koen will navigate ocean currents, shifting weather patterns, and the solitude of the deep sea.

Safety is paramount. A support vessel will accompany Koen at all times, providing medical backup, communication systems, and emergency protocols. This is not a reckless stunt; it is a calculated, methodical expedition years in the planning.
